Public Art in our Community

Our current project:

The Baker Street Underpass Tunnel Project

The underpass creates a safe bike and pedestrian corridor connecting downtown to nearby destinations such as the Whitefish Trail, Grouse Mountain Park and City Beach.  The underpass was designed by WGM Group with Stephanie Reynolds as the lead design engineer and construction was completed by LHC.  The underpass project was

funded with the Tax Increment Funds.

Stumptown Art Studio and Whitefish Legacy Partners also received funding from the Tourism Grant Program and the MT Department of Commerce. This multi-partner project created way-finding signs, “You Are Here” maps, and inspiring public art, creating a world-class outdoor recreation experience starting at the center of town.

Stumptown Art Studio, and lead artist Charity Flowers, captured the essence of life in NW Montana. The mixed-media mural, called "Reflections on Whitefish”, includes a series of cast glass panels reflecting the Whitefish Range.

The underpass is illuminated with high-tech lighting that brings the panels to life. Additional panels depicting nearby lakes and rivers will be created on the south side of the underpass in 2023.

Shown below are photos of the tunnel art project in process and a conceptual drawing of the mural painting we are currently working on.  This is a work-in-progress, and we will update our website as it becomes more complete.
